Real Estate Vision Board

I remember the first time I was introduced to the concept of a vision board. It was when I first watched the movie, “The Secret”. Since then, I have always had formal or informal real estate vision board and I encourage real estate agents to create their own.

A vision board is built around the law of attraction, which states the things that we focus on we draw into our lives.

So, if we focus on negative thoughts, the universe will bring us negative thoughts. Positive thoughts will bring positive thoughts. If we focus on the things we want — like through a vision board — the universe will work to draw those things to us.

More importantly, a vision board is a way to bring our Big Why into specific, vivid images. Tied together with our Big Why, we can use our vision board as a source of motivation.

It can propel us forward in the face of challenges and struggles.

Let’s look at how you can start building your real estate vision board.

Step #1: Determine Your Why

Our initial goals usually have deeper reasons. For example, an agent with a goal to increase production is rarely doing it for the money.

Rather, they want to do something with the money. It could mean being able to take a vacation with the family, buying a home, saving for retirement, or any number of things.

You will need to determine your Big Why. Take your goal and keep asking yourself, “Why?”, until you’ve found an answer that you’re emotionally connected to.

At that point, you’ve found your reasons why.

Step #2: Gather Material

You can make your vision board on any material you would like. You could make it on a giant poster board, use an old cork board, grab a canvas, or find a digital canvas.

If you plan to go the old-school non-digital method, you will need to gather magazines, scissors, and glue. You will be looking for images that you can cut out and attach to your vision board.

You should be looking for images that represent your big why. They’re the reason you want to do things. For example, I want to be more location independent. I want to be able to spend time living in places for 90 days or more.

A picture of an RV around the Grand Canyon makes my vision board. I want to be able to travel the U.S. while still working.

I happen to make a lot of my vision boards using the software program Canva. It’s free to sign up. There I will put images on my board and make the image my desktop.

Old magazines are hard to come by and I don’t want to print off a bunch of images from the web. Plus, a digital vision board allows me to change and update my board every year or as I change.

Your goal at this point is to gather images that help you SEE your goals and big why.

Step #3: Design Away

It’s time to start putting together your vision board. You can do it in any way that you like. Let your creativity and inspiration lead you. There is no right or wrong way to set up your vision board.

There is one recommendation we have… don’t clutter your real estate vision board. If this is your first time, it can be easy to put too many images and things on your vision board.

When your vision board is cluttered, you’re inviting clutter into your life and you lose vision. A vision board is meant to help you gain focus. Not lose it.

Step 4: See It Daily

Now that your vision board is made, you must put your board where you can see it every day. Even if you’re not studying it every day, just glancing at it does amazing wonders to help move you closer to your big why.

If you made a physical vision board, I encourage you to take a picture of it on your phone that you can use as a screensaver for your phone or computer.

This way you always have it with you — whether you travel, work from home, or get into the office.

Your vision board serves as a reminder of your big why which will serve as a catalyst to reaching your goals. Come back to your vision board when you need motivation or find yourself dipping into negative thought patterns.

Final Words

Listen, you might believe this stuff is hokey. I did at first. But, it reminds me of a mindset someone had for why they believe in G-d.

They said something to the effect, if G-d proves not to be real, then no big deal. If he is real and he didn’t believe it, then he would be damned.

I see it almost the same. The whole law of attraction might not exist, but there is no harm in believing it does. If it does happen to exist, then not creating a vision board will be bad for you.

A career in real estate can be tricky sometimes. There are a lot of ups and downs and it can get emotional. A vision board can help you maintain the right mindset so that the downs are less severe and the ups are even better.

Alright, enough talk. Go out and make your real estate vision board today. Good luck to the new year and may you reach your goals.

Shalom!
