About Alex Craig

Founder, Dolinski Group | Michigan Real Estate Investor

Bio

Alex Craig is the founder of Dolinski Group, a Michigan real estate acquisition and investment company focused primarily on Greater Lansing and Downriver.

Alex began working in Michigan real estate in 2017. Since then, he has personally evaluated more than 100 residential properties and acquired more than $890,000 of real estate as an investor. His experience includes deploying more than $400,000 of his own capital and equity into real estate and investing more than $100,000 into property repairs and improvements.

Today, his work through Dolinski Group is centered on a simple idea: Understand the asset first.

Real estate is more than a transaction. Before deciding whether to acquire, improve, finance, hold, or dispose of a property, Alex believes it is important to understand what the property is, what drives its value, what risks it carries, and what opportunities may exist.

Building Dolinski Group

Alex’s real estate career began in Greater Lansing, where his work has included residential sales, property valuation, investment acquisitions, inherited property, and renovation projects.

Over time, that experience evolved beyond individual transactions and led Alex to found Dolinski Group.

Through Dolinski, Alex has developed specialized real estate brands and capabilities around different parts of the property lifecycle, including We Buy Lansing, Lansing Rent to Own, and Achieve Capital Partners.

Today, Dolinski Group serves as the primary real estate investment company through which Alex evaluates, acquires, improves, holds, finances, and disposes of real estate.

Michigan Roots: Lansing & Downriver

Dolinski Group’s focus on Greater Lansing and Downriver reflects Alex’s own history in both markets.

Alex grew up Downriver and spent the first 23 years of his life there, with roots in communities including Taylor, Lincoln Park, Southgate, Wyandotte, and Trenton.

He later moved to Greater Lansing, where he has lived and worked for nearly a decade and built his real estate career across Lansing and surrounding Mid-Michigan communities.

These aren’t simply markets selected from a map.

Downriver is where Alex grew up. Greater Lansing is where he built his real estate career.

That firsthand familiarity informs where Dolinski Group invests, develops local expertise, and builds specialized real estate capabilities.

An Investor’s Perspective

Alex’s approach to real estate is shaped by experience on more than one side of a transaction.

He has worked as a licensed real estate professional, evaluated properties for owners and investors, renovated homes, acquired real estate using his own capital, and experienced both successful investments and projects that lost money.

That distinction matters.

When your own capital is invested in a property, valuation becomes more than an opinion. Repair estimates matter. Holding costs matter. Financing matters. Market liquidity matters. And being wrong has an actual cost.

That experience has shaped Dolinski Group’s investment philosophy.

It also drives Alex’s interest in property valuation and real estate research, including questions involving comparable sales, property condition, State Equalized Value (SEV), market value, investment returns, and the economics of different disposition strategies.

In 2025, Alex conducted an original study examining the relationship between State Equalized Value and residential sale prices in Michigan. The research analyzed over 5,000 property sales in Greater Lansing to test the commonly repeated idea that a property’s market value can be estimated as roughly twice its SEV.

Real Estate, Healthcare & Responsibility

Alex’s professional experience also extends beyond real estate.

He is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan – Flint.

Healthcare exposed Alex to a very different kind of problem: what happens when responsibility for another person’s life and affairs suddenly shifts.

Illness, incapacity, aging, or death can leave an adult child, caregiver, executor, trustee, or other family member responsible for decisions they never expected to make. Those responsibilities may involve care, finances, belongings, an estate — and very often, a house.

Alex began encountering the same circumstances from the real estate side.

An inherited property may need to be valued or sold. A parent’s home may need to be addressed after a move to long-term care. An executor may suddenly be responsible for maintaining a vacant house. Siblings may inherit property together without knowing what to do with it.

The intersection of those experiences led Alex to develop the Home Transition Advisor Framework, Estate Compass, and other educational resources focused on the responsibilities that arise when someone becomes responsible for another person’s home, property, or affairs.

That work has also brought Alex into conversations with professionals working on different parts of the same problem. He has produced educational interviews and discussions, hosted on YouTube, with Michigan probate and estate attorneys on topics including probate, inherited property, and estate administration, and he is involved with the Lansing’s Eldercare Planning Council, where professionals from different disciplines work around issues affecting older adults and their families.

Together with his experience in healthcare and real estate, those relationships have helped shape Alex’s work at the intersection of property, aging, estates, and changing family responsibility.

This work helps explain Alex’s particular interest and experience in inherited homes, probate real estate, aging-related property transitions, and complicated ownership situations.

However, these frameworks are part of Alex’s broader educational and intellectual work. Dolinski Group’s primary business is real estate acquisition and investment.

Beyond the Transaction

Alex has never viewed real estate solely through the lens of earning a commission.

His broader experience has included real estate investment, entrepreneurship, business ownership, healthcare, accounting and tax-related work, property renovation, and years of creating educational content about real estate and complicated property decisions.

That combination has reinforced a recurring principle: Real estate is an asset before it is a transaction.

A transaction answers the question of how ownership changes hands.

Investment requires asking additional questions: What is the property actually worth? What creates that value? What capital does it require? What risks exist? What could the property become? Should it be acquired, improved, held, financed, or sold?

Those are the questions Alex continues to explore through Dolinski Group.
